Kingfisher Lodge.
33 Kitchener Avenue, Cypress Grove, Graaff-Reinet, 6280
Description
Graaff-Reinet which was established in 1786 is the fourth oldest town in South Africa. The surrounding farmland epitomizes the Karoo. The town has retained much of its architectural heritage and it is no wonder that it is known as the gem of the Karoo, or as the heritage heartland of the rainbow nation. Quite a few of the various different cultures in South Africa, find their roots in Graaff-Reinet. The recently released film, "Red Dust" with Hillary Schwank, was filmed in Graaff-Reinet and the story bears witness of the rich cultural heritage of Graaff-Reinet.
Steeped in history, with a rich palaentology underlying the area and boasting some of the most magnificent scenery in the Karoo, Graaff-Reinet is a must visit destination. It also is one of the few towns surrounded by a game reserve, which is soon to be declared a National Park. Excursions into the surrounding area surprise one with their diversity and beauty.
